Dublin’s Senior Ladies Footballers Lead At Half Time In All Ireland Quarter Final.
Half-Time in the TG4 Ladies Senior Football All Ireland Quarter Final between Dublin and Kerry in St.Brendan’s Park,Birr,Co.Offaly and Dublin lead at the break on a scoreline of:
Dublin 1-09 Kerry 0-03
Dublin have dominated the first thirty minutes in Birr and deservedly lead at half-time. Kerry started as expected with a blanket defence pulling thirteen players behind the ball in a vain effort to close down the space for Dublin to operate.
Dublin have after the first couple of minutes of finding their feet punched big holes in Kerry’s rearguard with their powerful pacy running, quick accurate hand and foot passes, which has forced a panicked Kerry defence to commit a very high number of frees.
Sinead Aherne has punished them with a brilliant display of free taking that has been a joy to behold. Kerry have struggled badly to win any of their kickouts as Dublin have pushed right up on them and given Kerry’s number very few options.
Any that Kerry have got onto have been in their back line and the pressure being put on them from Dublin’s ferociously hard working players has forced turnovers at an alarming rate from Kerry’s point of view.
One such turnover led to Dublin’s goal scored by Niamh McEvoy. Dublin won the ball around the middle and the ball was fed to Niamh, she danced past a would be tackler and unleashed a rocket from about twenty five yards out to the top corner of the Kerry net.
So Dublin have a good lead to take into the second half but the job is only half done and they will have to work just as hard again to finally bury the ghosts of Birr.-Nigel
