KILMACUD CROKES SEE OFF ST JUDES AFTER EXTRA-TIME TO WIN DUBLIN SENIOR HURLING TITLE.

Kilmacud Crokes 2-16
St Judes 1-15

GOALS FROM CAPTAIN Sean McGrath and Ross O’Carroll proved crucial in enabling Kilmacud Crokes to win tonight’s Dublin senior hurling final after extra-time.

St Judes, appearing in their first ever final, looked to be on the cusp of history after fantastic displays by Dublin senior Danny Sutcliffe and 19 year-old Fionn O’Riain-Broin saw them lead by two points near the end of normal-time.

But a free by McGrath and a last-gasp score from play by Damien Kelly rescued a draw for Kilmacud Crokes. Then in extra-time the team managed by former Clare All-Ireland winner Ollie Baker took over and surged for the finish line.

Captain McGrath hammered home a fiercely-struck shot for a goal in the first period of extra-time after being set up by Ross O’Carroll and Kilmacud were in front by 2-13 to 0-14 at the midway mark in extra time.

St Judes battled to the finish with Paul Maguire firing a 20-yard free to the net. But Kilmacud closed out the game with a late Ryan O’Dwyer point and they now advance to the AIB Leinster SHC club quarter-final tie against Laois champions Rathdowney-Errill on Sunday November 2nd.

A tight first-half had culminated with the teams locked at 0-5 apiece. But Sutcliffe and O’Riain-Broin inspired their side to go 0-10 to 0-7 ahead entering the final quarter.

Then Kilmacud Crokes received a lifeline when O’Carroll whipped a ball to the net following a great run forward by Damien Kelly. Again St Judes upped the ante to go clear by 0-12 to 1-7 and then by 0-14 to 1-9.

But their hopes of glory were dashed by a late scoring salvo by Kilmacud. The winners controlled the game in extra-time with goalkeeper Mattie Collins in inspired form while defenders Cian MacGabhann and Jack Doughan also impressed.
