KEVIN MCMANAMON FIRES JUDE’S INTO SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP SEMI-FINALS.
ST JUDE’S 3-11
ST BRIGID’S 0-12
In O’Toole Park This Afternoon Kevin McManamon shot the lights out to send the Tymon North side into the last four of the Dublin Senior Football Championship.
The St Jude’s marksman scored 3-05 in a clinical display of finishing which Brigid’s had no answer to and Jude’s dream of an historic Dublin Senior football title is still very much alive.
Jude’s played with a fairly stiff wind in the first half and took full advantage of it to lead 1-07 to 0-01 at the break.
McManamon was responsible for 1-04 of that total with his opening goal coming in the nineteenth minute after a great pass and a typical bursting run from McManamon who gave the Brigid’s net minder no chance with his finish. At this stage the scoreboard read 1-06 to 0-00 in Jude’s favour.
Jude’s other points came from Collie Murphy,Brendan McManamon and Ronan Joyce. But Brigid’s will be kicking themselves as they won plenty of ball in the first half and created plenty of scoring opportunities but they left the scoring boots in the dressing room as they notched up wide after wide in a frustrating half for the Russell Park men. It was the thirty first minute of the half before they troubled the umpires with their first score,a point from Daire Plunkett.
Even with the wind at their backs for the second half any chance of a comeback from Tony McEntee’s charges was snuffed out in the opening seconds when McManamon pounced for his second goal of the afternoon and suddenly Jude’s were disappearing over the horizon.
Brigid’s did reply with two points of their own but moments later Kevin McManamon sealed the deal and completed his hat-trick to give Jude’s a commanding lead of 3-07 to 0-03.
Brigid’s to their credit never gave up and cut the Jude’s lead thanks to the dead ball expertise of Emyln Hughes who knocked over three pointed frees. But at this stage Brigid’s needed to raise a couple of green flags which just never seemed would happen as Jude’s stood firm and comfortably held on for a well deserved victory.-Nigel
