HILL 16 HERO SHERLOCK ADDED TO DUBS BACKROOM TEAM.
Darling of the Hill Jason Sherlock has been added to Jim Gavin’s backroom team for 2015.
Gavin has drafted the Dubs hero in as a forwards coach. Jayo burst onto the Gaa scene in 95 where helped Dublin win the All Ireland Title for the first time in twelve years.
He announced himself in style to the Gaa world on the 10th of July in Páirc Tailteann Navan in a Leinster Championship Semi Final against Laois, when he scored a brilliant goal in front of a large crowd and the TV cameras. What made the goal so special was Jayo lost his boot as he turned and headed for goal but that didn’t stop the bootless wonder who buried the ball to the back of the net with just the aid of his sock.
Sherlock represented Dublin from 1995 to 2010 with distinction and was a fan favorite among the Dublin supporters because of his flamboyant style of play, his fearless play for a player of his stature,(who can ever forget him putting it up to Meath hard man Mick Lyons) and his sublime scores.
Jayo was for many the first real Gaa Superstar, the one who brought the glitz and glamour to the world of Gaelic Games. He inspired a generation of children to take up the game and they couldn’t get enough of him. The annual GOAL charity game in 95 had to abandoned as thousands of kids invaded the pitch and made straight for Jayo desperate for an autograph or photo from their hero.
Jason announced his retirement from football on the 1st of June 2013 after a glittering career at both club and inter county level.
Jim Gavin will be hoping his 95 All Ireland winning former team mate can have an equally talismanic effect on the 2015 Squad as they go in search of reclaiming the Sam Maguire Cup.
BOOM BOOM BOOM LET ME HEAR YOU SAY JAYO,JAYO. -Nigel
