Dublin Are Leinster Senior Football Champions
Full-Time in the Leinster Senior Football Championship Final between Dublin and Meath in Croke Park and Dublin have retained their Leinster Title after easily beating Meath on a scoreline of:
Dublin 3-20 Meath 1-10
Dublin are the 2014 Leinster Senior Champions after ripping Meath to shreds. Dublin tore in the Royals from the off in the second half and scored at will. Meath were woeful and Dublin owned the ball attacking in waves with the Meath back gasping for air.
More goals were on the cards and Dublin’s second came around ten minutes in from Man of the Match Kevin McManamon who collected a pass and danced passed a couple of defenders before unleashing a bullet past a despairing dive from O’Rourke in the Meath goal and it was game over with still twenty five minutes to play.
Jim Gavin threw on Eoghan O’Gara and Dean Rock and they caused havoc with rock getting onto every ball that came his way and he also swung a couple of beauties over the bar. O’Gara’s powerful running with the ball had Meath in a panic and he got his just reward with Dublin’s third goal which came from Dublin turning the ball over in Defence and O’Gara got out in front of his marker to receive a pass, turned his man and headed straight for goal before letting fly with an unstoppable shot in the bottom left corner of the net.
At this point Meath had only managed to add two points to their half-time total and Dublin’s intensity levels dropped resulting in Meath at last getting a bit more of the ball they had been starved of. A high ball to the edge of the square was contested by two Dublin backs who just ran into each other and the ball spilled to a Meath player running through who dispatched it to the net and they followed this up with two points to give a flattering look to the scoreboard.
Dublin’s accuracy which had been so precise right through the game deserted them in the last couple of minutes and they registered a number of wides. But with only seconds remaining up stepped the influential O’Gara to knock over the last score of the game to seal a comprehensive victory. -Nigel
