Dublin Advance To The All Ireland Semi-Finals.
Full-Time in the All Ireland SFC Quarter-Final game between Dublin and Monaghan in Croke Park and Dublin have advanced to the Semi-Finals after beating Monaghan today on a scoreline of:
Dublin 2-22 Monaghan 0-11
Dublin can look forward to a semi-final clash with Donegal in three weeks time after what can be only described as a very easy win today against Monaghan in Croke Park.
Dublin never had to get out of second gear for the seventy plus minutes as Monaghan offered no threat at all and the Dublin back line had one of their easiest days in headquarters.
So much for a much needed test from a northern side that deploys a blanket defence,as Dublin cut through them with ease time after time and their blanket was more like a well worn sheet that was fraying at the seams.
The final scoreline could have been much wider as Dublin missed three clear cut goal chances which went narrowly wide in the second half. A couple of the misses in my opinion were down to Dublin being a bit casual in front of goal because it was that easy for them today.
The Second half descended into what could only be described as a training session and shooting practice for Dublin. Gavin started to empty his bench throwing on Dean Rock who scored a couple of brilliant points,Cormac Costello and Paul Mannion and Dublin coasted to the final whistle.
It’s hard to figure out what to take from today’s game and the question I would ponder is this, are we that good or is everyone else that poor. I think that question will be answered in three weeks time when I expect Dublin to have their biggest test against the clad iron defensive blanket of Donegal and after seeing both sides today I would think Jim McGuinness will be the one to have the sleepless nights over the next three weeks. -Nigel
