All Ireland SFC Quarter-Final Half-Time Report.
Half-Time in the All Ireland SFC Quarter-Final game between Dublin and Monaghan in Croke Park and Dublin lead at the break on a scoreline of:
Dublin 2-08 Monaghan 0-05
Dublin have taken a deserved lead into the dressing rooms after the first thirty five minutes. It was a dour opening twenty four minutes with Monaghan pulling fourteen players behind the ball and Stephen Cluxton will not have an easier time finding Dublin players with his kickouts.
At this stage the scoreboard was showing three points a piece and the entertainment value for the large crowd in Croke Park was pitiful. Then up stepped Diarmuid Connolly who collected the ball burst by two Monaghan defenders and slotted the ball home with aplomb.
Three minutes later a well worked move that went from one end of the pitch to the other and culminated in a succession of quick hand passes with the end result ending with the ball in Bernard Brogans hands and he buried it to the back of the net.
A couple of excellent points from Alan Brogan,Eoghan O’Gara and Jonny Cooper pushed Dublin further ahead and they have looked comfortable since. Monaghan have relied on a couple of frees to get any scores and will have to change their tactics in the second have to have any chance of getting back into the game. But that will mean abandoning their defensive system which will suit the Dubs in opening the game up.-Nigel
