All Ireland Minor Football Quarter-Final

Sallier double sinks Rebels

Dublin 2-14
Cork 1-13

Two first-half goals from Chris Sallier proved to be the difference as Dublin claimed Cork’s scalp in the first of today’s All-Ireland MFC quarter-final double-bill in Thurles.

Shane Kingston pulled a goal back for the Rebels with eight minutes left on the clock but it proved to be of no avail as the Leinster champions held on for a four-point victory thanks to late scores from Colm Basquel (2) and captain Con O’Callaghan.

Basquel could even afford the luxury of settling for the insurance point from a penalty right at the death.

Corner-forward Sallier put Cork on the back foot when raising two green flags inside the opening 13 minutes.

Those goals separated the sides at the end of an entertaining opening 30 minutes which saw the team in sky blue go in with a 2-6 to 0-8 advantage.

Try as they might, Donal O’Sullivan’s Cork charges were unable to bridge the gap after the resumption and Cyril Kevlihan’s team now turn their attention to a last four clash against Ulster champions Donegal.
