ST VINCENT’S AND BALLYBODEN TO BATTLE IT OUT IN THE SENIOR 1 CAMOGIE CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL.
Ballyboden St. Endas and Naomh Uinsionn will compete in this year’s We Are Dublin Senior Championship Final next Sunday the 19th of October in O’Toole Park.
Ballyboden defeated Lucan Sarsfields 2-13 to 1-09 at Páirc Uí Mhurchu while St. Vincents proved too good for Na Fianna 0-08 to 0-05 at Áras Naomh Uinsionn.
While Boden had seven points to spare over Lucan Sarsfields this morning it was a totally different affair between St Vincent’s and Na Fianna who had a real battle with the result in the melting pot right up until the final whistle.
It wasn’t one for the faint hearted and neither team gave an inch to their opponents. The tough battle was helped by the referee who thankfully wasn’t whistle happy but kept control of the game so it didn’t boil over.
Both defences were very much on top in the first half with scoring opportunities at a premium and at the break Vincent’s led five points to four.
The first twenty minutes of the second half followed the same pattern with Na Fianna getting the only point of the second half at that stage. Both sides were guilty of missing a number of opportunities from both play and placed balls.
Vincent’s then got a bit of a foothold in the game and really put the Na Fianna backs under pressure. This pressure eventually told as the up to then immaculate disciplined tackling of Na Fianna disintegrated and in the closing ten minutes crucially gave away a number of frees which Vincent’s gratefully took and held on for the win. -Nigel
