LATE FLOURISH FROM THOMAS DAVIS CLINCHES SENIOR 3 CAMOGIE CLUB TITLE.

Thomas Davis lifted the We Are Dublin Senior 3 Camogie Club Championship Title after overcoming Portobello by 2-08 to 1-07 in an entertaining game at O’Toole Park on Sunday afternoon.

Portobello played with the advantage of the strong wind in the first half and started the game brightly. Portobello’s Jackie Hurley and Alison McGrath from Thomas Davis exchanged early points before Portobello got on top and added 4 unanswered points, three from Jennifer Browne and the other one from Catherine Byrne.

Davis replied with a point from the impressive Ciara McGuigan, but Portobello at this stage were defending stoutly and repelling most of the Davis attacks.

At the other end Portobello were causing a lot of problems for Thomas Davis and the defence had their goalkeeper Ciara Long to thank for two superb saves when it seemed that Jackie Hurley couldn’t fail to score. The first half ended with the scoreboard reading Portobello 0-05 Thomas Davis 0-02.

Portobello opened the second half on fire and they had the sliotar in the back of the net after only three minutes of the second period. But back came Thomas Davis who replied with a goal and a point from Aidín Noonan.

The goal seemed to settle the Davis players and they pressed for home aided by four points,two each from Jennifer Brown and Paula Malcolmson to leave just two points between the sides with only ten minutes of the game remaining.

The game was turned in favour of Thomas Davis with seven minutes left when they were awarded a penalty and up stepped Paula Malcolmson who dispatched the sliotar to the back of the net giving Davis the lead for the first time in the game.

They added three more points to their total to push four ahead with time running out but credit to Portobello who never gave up and gave the large crowd in attendance an exciting last few minutes as tried everything they could to rescue the game but Thomas Davis held on to win the on a final scoreline of 2-08 to 1-07.
