Dublin Just Come Up Short In All Ireland Semi-Final
Full-Time in the Liberty Insurance Premier Junior All Ireland Championship Semi-Final game between Dublin and Laois in Athy Co.Kildare and it’s hard luck to Dublin who have been beaten by Laois on a scoreline of:
Dublin 3-04 Laois 3-12
Dublin just came up a bit short today in Athy. They got off to great start in the second half when a couple of minutes in Dublin’s Elaine Gallery found the back of the net to bring the sides level and it was game on.
A few minutes later and Elaine did the trick again,a ball was played in high and after a scramble for the ball Elaine emerged with it and dispatched it to the net to put Dublin in front for the first time in the match by three points.
Laois were then awarded a free about fourty meters out and it dropped in high came back off the post and a Laois hurl just got a nick on it and it trickled over the line. The goal turned out to be the turning point in the game as the momentum swung back in Laois’s favour.
After that their experience playing at this level really came to the fore and they drove on to the finish.
This Dublin squad should be very proud of their achievements this year It’s very rare that a team that has moved up a division makes it to a semi-final in their first year. The experience from today’s defeat and indeed from the whole season will really stand to the girls for next season and they will come back stronger and better next year. Each and every player, their Manager and backroom team have done Dublin proud this year and I look forward to seeing them all again next season in a Dublin Jersey doing what they do best winning games. Roll on 2015.-Nigel
