Dublin Junior Premier Camogie Starting Fifteen Announced
Liberty Insurance Premier Junior All Ireland Championship,
Dublin v Down,
Sunday 20th Of July 2014,
Junior Premiers Tough Encounter up North.
The Junior Premiers head north this Sunday, already in the knowledge that the Semi Final Target is already bagged. But there will be no sitting on their laurels this Sunday as the finishing pecking order has to be decided, and a win or a draw will leave the capital team in pole position to finish on the summit of the Championship league stages.
However, Down who are favourites for the championship need the win, not having secured their place yet in the Semi’s, so the Dublin players are going to have to be at their best to avoid a loss.
To make matters tough for the away team, the venue is Portaferry a 3 hour drive, though the visitors won’t be using that as an excuse if things go pear shaped on the day.
The Dubs have not lost an away group/league game in the last three years, so a mental toughness surrounds the squad on their travels, and with confidence high after 2 away wins this campaign, against Laois, who beat Down last time by a point, and more recently last Sunday away to Roscommon, where Dublin won by 10 points.
The Dublin squad is strengthened this week by the return to training of Emer Maher, and also Celia McCarthy, CarolAnne Canning, Ciara O’Leary and Megan O’Reilly returning from injury and all of them come in for consideration for team selection.
On a sour note Georgina Kelly hits the sidelines for a few weeks, joining Emer Keenan, Rachel Knocter, Ciara Burgess and Niamh Kelly in the physio lounge.
Last weeks two goal hero Emma Flanagan will lead the line again with the support act of Laoise Quinn and Elaine Gallery, scorers in their own right, in a formidable full forward line. The consistent Ali McGrath offers support with the reliable Roisin Collins and Aideen Naughton comes in to offer some guile to the attacking line.
Between the sticks, Sile Nic Coutier keeps order behind a backline marshalled by Grainne Ryan and assisted by Grainne Free, Grainne Smyth, Jackie Elebert,Michelle Kelly and the impressive Deirdre Johnston. They know they will be severely tested this Sunday. The backs have conceded just 7 scores from play over the 3 games played, they will need to keep their discipline against a Down side who make winning frees an art form, and have the players to punish teams that do give away the frees.
Dublin will need to keep the momentum going during the game to play to their strengths, and with the artistry of Shivers Kehoe in the middle alongside the pacey Niamh Adams the engine room wont be lacking desire to push the game on.
It will be Dublins biggest challenge so far this campaign one that they realish and will stand up to.
