Monday County Camogie Notes

County Teams: Well done to the Dublin teams who were in action in the All Ireland series on Sunday. The under 16As had a thrilling 2-13 to 3-06 win over Kilkenny at O’Toole Park today. The under 16Bs had a hard earned 2-10 to 1-08 win over Down. The Premier Juniors had an impressive 2-14 to 1-7 win over Roscommon.

Congratulations to Stephanie Carthy (Naomh Mearnog) who won the Dublin Puc Fada competition last week. She added the Senior Leinster Puc Fada title when she won the provincial event at the Curragh on Saturday. Best wishes to Stephanie in the National finals in the Cooley Mountains on the August Bank Holiday weekend. Well done to Megan Thomas (Erins Isle) who won the Dublin under 14 Puc Fada competition held in the Phoenix Park last week.

Dublin Blitz: Congratulations to all the players from the 36 teams from 12 counties (Antrim, Clare, Cork, Down, Dublin, Kilkenny, Kildare, Limerick, Meath, Tipperary, Waterford and Wexford) who took part in the 5th Dublin under 14 (and 15) Blitz on Saturday 12 July in Naomh Mearnog. Great skill and sportsmanship were in evidence throughout the 80 games played today. Our thanks to Paul Beecher and the organising committee, the referees and all the participating players. Our thanks to Naomh Mearnog GAA club for hosting this great event (9 pitches were used for the games). Under 14A – Kilkenny defeated Cork in the final. Under 14B – Waterford defeated Tipperary in the final. Under 14C – Dublin beat Cork in the final. Under 15A – Dublin defeated Tipperary in the final. Under 15B – Dublin beat Antrim in the final. A great celebration of Camogie.

Reminder to clubs to vote for the Camogie County Player of the Decade. The County Board is organising the Dublin County Player of the Decade Award (2005 – 2014) as part of the 110th year celebrations of the Camogie Association. The County Player of the Decade refers to playing seasons in the period 2005-2014 inclusive. Criteria for County Player of the Decade: Role model/sportsmanship (club/county) 30%; Playing excellence at county level 30%; Longevity of playing career (club/county) 20%; Dedication/commitment to county 20%. Only one nomination will be accepted from each club – a club cannot nominate one of its own players. Names must be returned to An Rúnaí no later than Friday 1 August.

SERVASPORT membership training evening – There will be one Servasport Membership workshop held Tuesday 15th of July at 7:30pm in the Leinster GAA offices in Portlaoise. All the questions regarding registration, membership, recent difficulties, reports, enhancements etc. will be discussed. All lubs encouraged to send representative, possibly the registrar!
